From Lt.Dan Minton:
The Church Hill area has had three residential burglaries since Friday (Oct. 25, 2013). The main time frame is between 12:00 noon to 2:00 pm. During the last burglary a witness saw 2-B/Ms, 16-18 y.o.a., 5’8’’-5’11’’tall, 160-180 pounds, wearing all black baggy clothing in the alley behind the victim’s residence walking away with a large bag and the victim’s bicycle.
These took place in the 500 block of 26th Street, 500 block of 27th Street, and the 600 block of 33rd Street.
If you have any information regarding these burglaries please call me at 240-9158 or email me at Daniel.Minton@RichmondGov.com

I hope they are caught, that they have my stuff, and they are thrown in jail for a very, very long time.
Tayne,
What did they take from you? Any more details you can provide about how they got in? Sorry for your loss and I agree that it would be nice to get these creeps caught quickly.
I strongly recommend this:

You have to lock it up somewhere they cannot get at it. I save pictures off to a remote FTP server.
Works extremely well as more than once I have been able to show officers who they were looking for.
@Alex- they stole 2 ipads, a playstation and $300 in cash in one of the robberies.
In the robbery that happened yesterday, they broke a window in the back of the house to get in.
Over the weekend when I took out garbare, I noticed all the back alley private fence doors opened (of all my neighbors). I immediately thought this was odd as they are always closed. I did not see anyone… The alley is between 29th & 30th, clostest to E Broad. This really scares me!
What if they steal the DVR? Then how would anyone kknow who it was. Anyone in the area professionally install this?
@Laurie, what side Broad?
Now that the Buzzy’s threads have been shut down, maybe folks will come onto this thread to discuss ways we can work together to prevent more break in from happening.
I did see a cop car cruising down 27th on my way home from work tonight so hopefully that is a sign of a stronger presence DURING THE DAY as well.
I hope they like facing my AR-15 home alarm system
Richmond Police warn of lunchtime burglaries in Church Hill

We need to do more to keep an eye out for one another, our fellow neighbors. I saw the 2 kids from the 26th St. break-in, but didn’t want to seem “prejudiced”. An hour later, my neighbor is in tears because strangers have ransacked her home. If something doesn’t feel like, take a closer look, call the police, do something. Next time it could be you!
*If something doesn’t feel right, that is.
Bill 3 @12/13, yes, next time just call the police. If these are really kids, they are likely also truant (unless it’s a school holiday). In any event, I agree, if something doesn’t feel right, call the cops immediately. They will appreciate it, and you might even be helping to catch the thieves.
Also, I think that is Lt. Minton’s cell phone number that he posted along with his email in his last sentence, we might want to make a note of that, too.
Regarding the local thieves…they will eventually yank on the wrong handle (threat definitely intended) and there will be a newsworthy event. But until then, this is what I’ve learned:
Be kind, respectful, understanding, supportive and protective of/towards your neighbors.
Know that there are people roaming this neighborhood with bad intent, looking for opportunities to fulfill their bad intentions.
Remove all valuables from all vehicles and lock all vehicles.
Remember to check your tire pressure soon.
Lock your fence gates, sheds, windows and doors (esp. lower floors), both when at home and away.
Remain vigilant. It’s a great neighborhood but ain’t everybody cool.
B&E’s and rob’n and steal’ns make me angrier than all of the anger in all of the angry Capt. Buzzy’s posts ever.
I’m just sayin’…
I want my lawnmower back from 2002…stolen. I miss it. It had a Briggs and Stratton.
Well said Common Scents!
@ Chip – North of Broad…
Next time I see anything that feels ‘odd’, I’ll certainly call the non-emergency number to alert police.
Thanks!
