Quick thinking neighbor helps with burst pipe

Neighborly concern and firefighters from stations #1 and #11 helped prevent further damage to a Cedar Street home yesterday.

When a passerby knocked on his door to say that his Cedar Street neighbor’s house was leaking a tremendous amount of water, Michael did not hesitate to step outside to see how he could help.

He found that the corner house had water flowing from beneath the siding along the side and across the back, likely a victim of the recent freeze.

After attempting to find a way to contact the landlord and unable to turn off the water at the street, Michael was able to flag down a passing firetruck from station #1 on 24th Street.

They didn’t quite have the tool needed to shut off the water, but were able to call in a truck from station #11 who was coming up Venable Street. They had the water key, and within a minute the water was no longer flowing out of the back of the house.
