Anybody else see the drag racing?

At 12am four motorcycles dragged raced on Marshall [near 27th and 28th], they were followed by a white SUV also racing with two more motorcycles behind them. It was crazy… My boyfriend and I were outside and saw it…. Our neighbor heard it from inside her apartment.
TAGGED: Marshall Street
The stretch bewteen 32nd and 36th on ZE broad is pretty bad. Worst part about it is there is always cops sitting in the park right there on lunch, they just watch. I witness people on a daily basis go easily over 50mph, with the cops in the park, less than 300-400 yards away…..
Who wants to to put down their lunch to chase a crotch rocket anyways….
@1…I’ve noticed and wondered the same thing. The police cruiser will be parked inside the Chimborazo Park while facing Broad St and do nothing when a car, bus or truck far exceed the 25 MPH speed limit on Broad. It’s not just during lunch time…these cars are in the park at all hours of the day. Maybe Lt. Dan will have a comment about this? Sadly, some of the very worst offenders are Richmond City School buses. Apparently, they’re immune to the speed limit?
@Lt Dan
That would be great to have radar set up on E Broad between 32nd and 36th St. I live on the corner of 33rd and Broad Street; it’s amazing the speeds people can get up to in 4 blocks in that short stretch. Especially the buses (I totally agree with Laura) and motorcycles. I see a fairly regular police presence in Chimborazo Park, which is especially good through the night, but, I have never seen them pull someone for speeding along this stretch. There are no stop signs from Gillies Creek Park all the way to 32nd street. This section definitely needs to be broken up.
What is the process to get a few speed bumps/stop signs put in? I think with the Farmers Market coming in June, speed bumps and or additional stop signs should be essential with the potential increase in traffic….
33nd through 36th and Broad? Isn’t this the same area where RPD allowed “Daddy” to take his little girl home after she blew through a some stop signs?
Nope, that was around 28th street, but close. I thought they confirmed that was not a officers daughter? I’ve seen multiple people come from 36th street and blast through the stop sign at 32nd street going >40 mph. Its a wonder no pedestrians, kids or dogs have been run over yet….
Unless you have radar let’s give RPD a break. There is an opportunity for speeding and I’m sure it occurs but let’s wait and see what a little attention does for us before making assumptions. As far as drag racing is concerned I’ve noticed a lot of dirt bike riders making loops without helmets. Over and over, loud and looks like they may be over the speed limit.
Speed is definitely an issue on these blocks. Without fail at approximately 6:35 am, a Richmond City School bus (female driver) heads westbound from Government Road and storms through those blocks at a speed well above 25 MPH…she also does the rolling stop through the sign at 32nd then proceeds to gun it through the remainder of the blocks. I fear the day a loose dog or worse, a child steps out into the street. Unbelievable…a school bus driver!
Thanks for the stepped up enforcement Lt. Dan! We appreciate you and your team.
@Daniel S…unfortunately a dog was hit and killed on the 3300 block several months back.
To those who have seen school buses speeding – get the bus number and report them to Don Coleman, our school board rep, and/or Lt. Dan. This is particularly aimed at Laura #9 – someone reported a speeding school bus on East Franklin a number of years ago, and it worked. Stopped it cold.
The incident with the girl who blew the stop sign and was taken away by her dad was at 30th and East Broad (Ray #6).
Thanks for the stepped up enforcement in re: speeding on Broad St. I’ve seen lots of police activity over the past few. Lots of folks are getting pulled. Thanks Lt. Dan!
Scott Tilgham… I live in the Wills house (big white house) on the 400 block and hear cars bottoming out at the 27th and Clay intersection often. I think most are cop cars running through on a call and not realizing of the dip but others are probably blowing through while “on the run”?
