No, happily. How many? Are they safe with you? We can come get them if not, and if their owner doesn’t turn up.
They are running loose if you wanna go scoop em
Seriously? Okay.
Well, we found them—they seem to have broken free from a make-shift coop. There is feed for them and there are waterers. We left them for now, will go back and check closer to dusk to see where they are roosting (hopefully back in their coop, and we can put the barricade to it back up). That house looks like it’s in the middle of a big reno…no humans around. So, what to do–I hate to just take someone’s hens, but they are not really safe where they are. Any thoughts, especially from people near Clay and 33rd who have a better sense of the house and the people, would be great. Or actual word from the hen owners.
I asked around, but no one on the street knew any of the people on that corner.
How many were there when you went by? When I was there I saw at least 20, but it’s hard to imagine they’re staying in one place, esp with so many cats around. Like you, I’m not sure.
Thought you are limited to FOUR chickens?
I may have overestimated due to panic, but it was more than four by a wide margin.
We counted a dozen or so. Most are too big for cats to be a threat, but other critters are (not to mention cars–they are right by the road). EDS, frankly, I’m way less concerned about ordinance compliance tonight than animal safety and personal boundaries and that sort of thing. I’m sure the people who actually live nearby have opinions and will take whatever action they feel is appropriate long-term.
Any update on this story? Are the chickens okay?
We ended up tucking the hens back into their makeshift coop and leaving a note for the owner–checked yesterday and there were some definite efforts at a better enclosure.
