Sector Problem–Solving Workshop pulls together citizens, police, city agencies
The Richmond Police Department’s Sector Problem–Solving Workshop was this past Saturday at MLK Middle School.
Grace Street resident Jean McDaniel attended the workshop and sent in her account:
It was put together by the Richmond Police Department and notices posted here on CHPN for anyone who wanted to attend. You could register on line. It was so easy I even did it!
For the most part, this area of Church Hill is perceived as insular and not interested in the “rest of the Hill” I met people from Union Hill, Whitcomb Court, Fairfield, Mosby, Creighton and ONE PERSON from the CHA area.
A lot of work went into this workshop and I learned a lot about these other areas and met some very involved and interesting people. The goal was to voice your concerns affecting your neighborhood, being very specific. The next step was to come up with solutions and plans of action, then depending what category the problem fell into, consult with that City agency.
There were numerous City officials present such as Parks and Recreation, traffic, narcotic detectives, etc. Mrs. Newbille was there for anyone that wanted to talk with her.
If you are not part of the solution, you are part of the problem. All the complaining on CHPN is just hot air if you don’t get involved!

John
Thank you for posting this. It was so well done and so much work went into it. I was very disappointed that Jon Ondrak and I were the only people from this area.
It WAS well done. Thanks RPD.
I had a great time & went away feeling more informed & engaged. Kudos to ALL my neighbors & friends that spent such a beautiful Saturday “getting it done”: Ann, Jean , Jon, Chuck & Mary, David C., & etc.
Jean, you are dead on, and as the Capt. (?) stated to all in attendance: “If you’re not here today, then we’re not hearing from you!” You’ve gotta be in it-to win it folks.
Let’s get to work…
