Church Hill Central meets tonight at Robinson Theater
07/07/2014 7:43 AM by John M
The Church Hill Central Civic Association meets tonight:
We will be meeting this Monday, July 7 at 7PM at The Robinson for our quarterly gathering. When you come in to The Robinson, turn left and head up the stairs.
We have a guest coming to speak to us from the Storefront for Community Design, so please join us.
All are welcome!
Come one, come all! If you want to participate in an organized and low key but effective community organization in the Church Hill area, this is the one for you! Meetings typically last only 1 hour. Everyone is friendly and you will be warmly welcomed!
The Robinson Theater is at 2903 Q Street http://www.robinsontheater.org
What geographic boundaries does this group cover?
All of Church Hill except the St. John’s District. For reference, I live in Chimborazo.
According to the Church Hill Civic Association map posted on the City of Richmond website, this group comprises the area in between Broad Street and Nine Mile Road, and 25th Street to 31st Street. I have been to a number of different association meetings (Church Hill, Union Hill, Central) and I daresay no one has ever asked for proof of residency or membership, other than when voting on official association positions.
@tim – let me 2nd that, I’ve been to a ton of various civic assoc meetings across the area and it’s always been great to meet the folks on the ground in the different areas
Will try to come by but this is the first I have heard of it. Is there an email list I can join?
Wow, only limited to 6 blocks wide? i did not realize church hill was so small. Im sure the CHA does not limited its boundaries by that much? but i guess the key word is “central”. I was jsut thinking a half block off 25th street is pretty central church hill!
West across 25th is either Union Hill or Fairmount if you’re up high enough, repped by the Union Hill Civic Association and New Vision Civic League respectively.

Here’s a rough map of the civic associations from a few years back. Church Hill Central was created in part to fill the hole in the middle

BAF. ….. They are on yahoo groups
No one takes your address. No yellow cards or checking in at the door. I live on 32nd and there’s another person who lives on Chimbo. This is not a dues paying members group. CHC’s purpose is to ‘keep a finger on the pulse’ of Church Hill – those were the very words used to describe the group at the meeting tonight.
The associations, groups and or gathering of people on the Hill are generally casual and informal. At almost any meeting, folks show up from nearly any/all parts of the greater Church Hill, as attendance is driven by subject matter/issues than geographical boundaries.
The association/groupings and designations have evolved over time and some even were formed to address specific interest/concerns of the most immediate neighbors.
At all meetings on the Hill – everyone is welcome and encouraged to participate, (with notable exception to voting on, “official matters”, whereby membership is needed in some of the associations). In most cases, 95% of most CH meetings are communications of happenings, asking for volunteers, community service events, public concerns, crime reports and general Hill information sharing.
