Anyone missing this black cat?
10/27/2014 7:52 PM by John M
This lovely cat showed up in my yard yesterday. She likes dogs, and lets folks pick her up. She’s brown black with white on her belly, and she’s very obviously someone’s pet.
I saw her on the 600 block of N. 23rd Street this evening, and neighbors have seen her around for a couple of days now. With Halloween approaching, she’d be much better off indoors since black cats are a target for cruelty this time of year.
A friend who volunteers with Richmond Animal Care and Control has offered to find a foster home for her if she isn’t claimed. She’s such a sweetheart, and her coat is in such good shape, that I’m sure she’s got a home around here somewhere.

Wow, I’d say she were mine, but I know Sooty doesn’t travel THAT far!
Aww, get her into a foster home QUICKLY! She looks like a sweetie, and she deserves to be inside at this time of year.
It sounds like Breakfast who lives on the corner of 22nd & Leigh.
I just want to hear that someone has taken her INSIDE until either she gets fostered, or her owner is found. John if she is still there please let me know and I will pick her up and take her to Church Hill Animal Hospital or anywhere else if need be.
Yes, that is definitely Breakfast. I met Breakfast when he tried to go into an open house I was attending. He is very friendly and likes to travel around the neighborhood. I will be happy to drive and get the exact address of the house today, please email me so we can connect about this and get him home!
Or people can leave the cat alone and it will return home. It is hard to find a cat when people take it insode to their home, or the the nimal hispital, or generally “save” a cat that does not need ot be saved.
The same thing goes for dogs in the neighborhood. Not everyone in the community uses this blog and it is sure hard to drive around looking for a lost dog when it is in someones house.
Leave people pets alone.
I wouldn’t have minded someone taking in my Grey Russian some years back. She got out at night (23rd/Broad St) and I found her the following afternoon, deceased on the road, about a block away from my house.
I don’t think there’s any harm in kind people taking in animals, then post on this blog (word-of-mouth travels fast) and/or put up fliers, which is what I expect the majority of people do anyway.
@Aud, agreed 100%. I think people who have the compassion and presence of mind to take in what they believe is a stray will employ multiple of means of advertising for the stray’s owners, e.g. CHPN post, reports to local vets and animal shelters, posters/signage.
Sorry, neighbor, I disagree too. If one of my kitties got out, I would hope someone would take him or her in and then actively look for the owners (as we would). I understand your point though. If you are willing to take in a lost pet, you should be actively working to find the owner.
