Is there a B&B in Church Hill?
11/10/2014 9:38 AM by John M
A reader is looking for a local B&B – is there one?
I remember the signs on Broad Street close to Patrick Henry’s Pub about a B&B but can’t find anything on it.
I’m looking for a B&B in Church Hill for at least three rooms in May next year for various length of stay.
TAGGED: question
I don’t know of a “true” B&B, but I believe there is at least one full home in the neighborhood on AirBNB.
For example: https://www.airbnb.com/rooms/2019703
The William Catlin House, 2304 E. Broad is listed as a B&B under tripadvisor. Is it still one???

I bet there will be lots of temporary B&Bs next Sept.
Patrick Henry’s Pub is undergoing renovations for the purpose of opening a B&B. From what I understand, they might be open for business by May of 2015. You might want to give them a call to inquire.
The William Catlin House was a B&B, but no longer. I knew someone who stayed there once and he enjoyed it, but the sign declaring them a B&B hss been down for some time now and as we understand it the owners are done with this business.
The wife of the owner is quite ill and I understand that they are no longer running the William Catlin House.
There are also several really nice places listed with AirBNB in Church Hill.
I have tried to broach the subject of opening a B&B on Church HIll but residents oppose due to the fear of parking and increased traffic issues.
We need to get over such issues and open our wonderful community to the public. Recently with the reconition of our community for the best of this and that – comes folks that want to visit and stay here. However, we don’t formally allow such now, which needs to change. It would be far nicer to have a real B&B here than to send friends and visitors to hotels on the other side of 95.
There will be a real B&B in Church Hill in the near future. It will be on the corner of 23rd and Broad above the inside dining room at the Patrick Henry Pub and Grille
I’m glad to hear about the B&B plans for Patrick Henry, and sorry about the Catlin House and the owner’s ill health; best wishes to her for a speedy recovery. My parents stayed at the Catlin House a couple of years ago when we had more family visiting than room to put them up in our house, and they enjoyed their stay very much.
Agree with CH Resident. A nice small inn consistent with the AirBNB movement would be an asset to the East End. Put it within a 5 minute walk of all of the sites and restaurants, and then there is no net traffic addition. People come to Church Hill to do two things: eat and walk off their meal.

What will be the amenities? We do need one but a single floor can only house one or two guests I am sure. Need a complete house to be one and the old Billups house would be a great one if someone would invest into it and only convert the upper floors while leaving the formal first floor as is.

John, thanks for the link but I see a couple of issues here.
First, a B&B means Bed & Breakfast… not bed and get your own damned breakfast except weekends. A home cooked meal should be a part of it 7 days a week per the type of business it is or it’s simply a hotel.
Next, having it above what they call a “hip tavern” is not exactly family friendly which is what most people seeking a B&B while traveling are looking for hence, my comment about the Billups house would make a better fit. An old-fashioned more traditional B&B where you have a family meal at a single table and socialize with guests while the owners keep the food going each day.
I think there’s only one other B&B in the city; it’s on the Boulevard.
I have the old Cailtin-Abbott B&B (no longer in operation) for sale at 2304 East Broad. Zone as a B&B and perfect timing for Church Hill to have a full-blown, elegant B&B back in service.
