Attempted robbery on 26th Street

At approximately 01:00 hours the victim was walking a dog in the 300 block of North 26th Street. The victim was approached by a group of black males and at least one white male. One black male suspect produced a long barreled gun, possible shotgun. The suspects attempted to rob the victim however nothing was taken. The victim was not injured. The suspects fled on foot. All suspects were late teens to early twenties.
The suspect armed with a long gun was described as BM, approx 5’10 160 lbs, blue bandana, dark colored hoodie.
Detectives are following strong leads and are asked that anyone with information call police at Crime Stoppers. 780-1000
So they are robbing people w dogs now, so I’m sure this will make almost everyone in the neighborhood feel safe. A dog isn’t enough anymore, carry your gun!
I’d be curious to know why it was an attempted robbery rather than a successful one.

‘At least one white male involved’. Huh. Wonder who the ‘perpetrators’ were. Same old. Need to get these guys off the street.
Not all dogs being walked are big brutes. Some are small even toy doge and pose no threat.
I guess the difference between attempted versus successful robbery is that they walked away with nothing. Technicality.
Start carrying people! No need for concealed!!!! Maybe if we all open carry it will give them a reason to keep on moving instead of trying to harass everyone in their path. I understand that the majority of these fine young law abiding gentlemen are not of age but something has to give.

Maybe the “open carry guys” everyone disparaged a while back need to do a night patrol? Which group makes you more concerned? The open carry guys or thugs with guns?
If you choose to carry your gun, and you are prepared to use it: You certainly can be the hero – you can be Charles Bronson! Or, you can be George Zimmerman (that didn’t worked out so well, eh?)

For me, I’d opt for getting a tougher dog – one with an ambiguous rabies shot record! (If 16 vaccination shots to the belly button is not a deterrent for crime, I don’t know what else would be…)
Who walks his/her dog at one in the morning?
@10. Lots of people. As an example, people who work in the restaurant/bar business often live different hours than the standard 9 to 5 workers.
I have used mine. Saved what was an almost certain death. You might be able to search it on this website.
Folks walk their dogs at all hours. If your furry friend needs to go he/she needs to go. It shouldn’t matter what time the crime occurred; it’s still a crime and not the victims fault.
Fortunately rabies shots are no longer 14. It’s only 4 or 5 shots and not in the belly unless that’s where you are bitten. If you are bitten and get the shots they do inject at the sight of the bite.
These a-holes again? I hope these guys get caught soon.
Yea theres not many groups of kids who match this decription…… multiple black males with one white male in their late teens to early 20’s.
Actually… theres only ONE group around the hood that matches the description! Be on the look out for them! Call the police if they look the slightest bit suspicious!!
I was approached after 1pm by the same group on 27th street between Clay and Leigh. My Akita German Sheppard Mix let them know he was going to hurt at least 1 of them and they kept walking. I saw no gun. It was 7 young men. 1 white. At least 4 Black men. Two were behind me and I did not get a good look at them. One of them goes by Daron or Derrin. I called Crime Stoppers with the information and they made me feel like I was “asking for it” by walking my dog after 1am… Also CS wanted to know what crime had been committed and why did I not report it at 1am? A simple thanks for the name and descriptions would have been nice.

So it looks like these kids are progressing right in front of our eyes? Looks like they may have had some older guys “training” them with this last robbery? Come on RPD get these guys off the street!

Be careful about using your dogs for protection. Let’s not challenge these boys to shoot one. I feel certain these young men are going to get themselves arrested soon.
@Lucky Dogz: Or they are going to kill someone. Or get killed themselves.I feel like laws meant to protect minors are actually endangering everyone. To bad the record we would need to evaluate the situation afterward probably won’t ever be unsealed. I’m beginning to think the laws need to change
It’s an embarassingly incompetent display by our city’s police force when there’s a pretty well known group of kids doing a lot of this and they can’t pin anything on them. In light of that its not surprising that those kids are going to start feeling increasingly invincible and bold.

Yes, the last thing we need is a Ferguson-type outbreak here.
And it is mind boggling why people riot to burn and loot over a decision rather than protest? It accomplishes nothing other than a free pass to steal and destroy the lives of many people rather they own or work at the businesses destroyed.
I am old enough to remember riots back home – one happening in 1968 that ended with similar results for similar reasons.
The last thing that we need is for someone to be murdered by a police officer.
We don’t need any kind of DEATH whatsoever… period! But the volatility factor is there if it is an incident like in Ferguson especially where there is a higher concentration of African-Americans like in Church Hill or youths as we are a college town.
No matter what people say, racial tensions still exist and I have seen, heard, and experienced it since moving to Church Hill 15-years ago.

Not sure if this is what you meant, but there wasn’t a murder in Ferguson. The shame of the situation is that the rioting, looting, and the attempt to make a martyr out of a lowlife thug only serve to discredit the very real concerns about racial bias and inequality in Ferguson. The only good thing to come out of this is the push for more officers to wear cameras.
In any event, the police, the education system, the courts, and the community at large seem to be failing to deal with young men like Michael Brown before they…well, grow up to be young men like Michael Brown. They are also failing to deal with these young adults once they become a problem. And whether the person who gets killed is a victim (as I believe was the case with Trayvon Martin) or an aggressor (as was the case with Michael Brown), at the end of the day all of it could have been prevented by any number of actors whose efforts fell short

They are asking for it, just like when someone else decided to rob a store and then punch a cop in the face two times, while the cop was seated in his car.
So now these kids are asking to shot death? The last thing that we need is for someone to be murdered by whichever one of you wants to be Church Hill’s George Zimmerman.

That is exactly what they are asking for, by virtue of their behavior. Threatening or attempting to hurt or kill someone – a credible threat when done with weapons – has reasonably anticipated consequences.

To clarify, yes they are asking to be shot to death because they are breaking into people houses (people have the right to defend their homes) and committing ARMED robbery. And yes if they present their weapon to an officer in the wrong way, they deserve to face the consequences!

@26 and anybody else…why do you refer to black folk as African American? Do you know that they’re from Africa, or are you just assuming? At this point, they’re just American. None of us plain ol’ white folk go around wanting to be called European-American. We’re just American.

Some black people prefer to be called African-American, especially if they have African cultural ties and ancestry.
Also this could be a reason black people are referred to African-American:
