Art Burton and Kinfolks Community fighting the good fight in Mosby

Brandon Shulleeta has great look at Art Burton’s Kinfolks Community on richmond.com today:

The group has projects underway that include blight removal, the creation of a farmers market and even a street art gallery. Kinfolks also works on job training, home construction, health services and loan services for very small business operations.

The group is particularly focused on helping young people in Mosby and typically employs teenagers in the community to do the work. Burton said he’s determined to help the young generation break the cycle of poverty, violence and hopelessness.

Mark Robinson had a long piece on the group and their efforts in Richmond Magazine last month:

Poverty, addiction and gun violence are only a few of the chronic problems plaguing the city’s public housing projects. But Kinfolks Community founder Art Burton is determined to be just as stubborn — and then some.
