RIP Jack
Jack, who along with Cubby has become something of a locally-famous cat, had to be put to sleep yesterday.
Kimberly has some words on his passing:
Jack was just a week old when he was discovered in an turpentine soaked rag in a warehouse in the Dominican Republic. He nursed on a cat formula concoction I found on the Internet and he gradually weaned off the bottle to be a real cat!
We made the journey together back to the States and on to Richmond in 2011.
Immediately, he made countless friends while sunning on the 2700 block of E Broad in Church Hill. Jack was curious about absolutely everything (to the point that he went on a 3.5 month walkabout) and had to be a part of whatever was going on. He loved folding over a ladder back chair to try to catch his tail- his game for hours on end.
His favorite toy from the time he was a baby was a miniature raggedy Andy doll, that was with him today as he went to sleep.
Thank you to all for your love and support, especially my wonderful community in Church Hill and the awesome folks at Church Hill Animal Hospital who went the extra mile today. Thanks to you, Jack isn’t stressed and hurting anymore.
I am so sorry for your loss.
I met Jack about two years ago while my girlfriend and I lived on broad and 28th. He was such a cute personality and we loved seeing him on the way to and from buzzys. You will be missed!
Kimberly I am so very sorry for your loss. He was a special cat.
So sad to hear about Jack. :o(
So sorry to hear about Jack – I know how much it can hurt to lose a companion like that. You can rest assured that Jack was in good hands at CH Animal Hospital and I would imagine that he’s playing with the big Raggedy Andy in the sky now. RIP, little guy.
I’m so sorry for your loss; he will be missed. Almost every time I looked out my front window, I would see him acting as the official greeter for the block; anybody who walked by was his new BFF.
I’m so sorry to hear about Jack. He was such a sweet kitty. I’ll miss him and long legged strut.
Aw, so sorry to see this little guy go. He has been the only cat on our walks both brave and social enough to swat our dogs into submission so he could come say hi. He’ll be missed!
I am so sorry to hear about Jack. If only all cats were as fortunate to have had somebody like you to rescue them!
My deepest sympathies. Jack will be greatly missed by all, but none more than you. So sorry 🙁
Very sorry for your loss. He is in excellent company right now.
We will miss having him escort us to the Hill Cafe. He was a sweet kitty and will be missed.
Jack would walk with me on my evening walks, following me from a couple blocks and trying his best not to trip me as he rubbed up against my legs. He was a very sweet kitty and I will miss him. I’m sorry for your loss, but know that a lot of people loved him! <3
We carry you and Jack in our hearts. Our sweet furry children are with us and love us so fully, even if only for a short while in their earthly lives. They bring out our best selves and bless us in so many ways — giving back so much to their rescuers that they, too, are rescuers. Take care.
So sorry for your loss. I saw Jack many times while walking around the neighborhood and he never failed to come up to me and say hi and get an ear rub. Church Hill will miss him!
We loved to walk up Broad St with Captain Jack while he creeped on our little dog from the fences, bushes, porches, and tree wells. He brought us lots of joy and we will miss him.
I’m really sorry for your loss. I’m glad he lived a good life and had someone who cared for him.
Sorry about Jack. Last may we had to put down our Zoe, a Chihuahua – French Bulldog mix. She was around 18 years old, a rescue that had been left in an abandoned house to die, and was the love of our life. She had become severely diabetic so was taking 2 insulin shots per day, had gone blind and deaf and even lost most of her sense of smell. At the end she could not even stand on her own. There is a point that you must let go overcoming ones selfishness to do so even though with their last breath they strive to please their masters. Unconditional Love.
RIP, Jack. Always a joy.
