Council to honorarily name the 3200 block of Q Street after Henry Marsh

At their meeting tonight, City Council will consider honorarily naming the 3200 block of Q Street after Henry Marsh, as “a city resident whom the Council has determined to have made extraordinary contributions to African-American history in the city of Richmond”:

WHEREAS, Henry L. Marsh, III, has shown exemplary leadership and commitment to the City of Richmond, including serving on the City Council for 25 years from 1966 to 1991, becoming the first African American to serve as the Mayor of the City of Richmond in 1977, leading the City Council to adopt a human rights ordinance, and helping to shape the way youth are educated, neighborhoods are formed, voting rights have advanced, corporate hiring is conducted, and seating on buses and trains is arranged, all with an eye to advancing equality for Americans, and has striven to foster racial harmony as a civil rights attorney, state senator and through the cultivation of civic organizations in Richmond;

Justice RVA is planning to protest at the meeting for a list demands and grievances unrelated to Henry Marsh.
