TAGGED: trees
With the city removing trees from our streets, are there plans to ever replace the ones that have been removed over the past few years? The blocks between of M Street and Nine Mile Road could use some nice trees lining the streets again.
701 N. 22nd is already gone. The city came out last week and started cutting big branches off. I called to ask what was up and they said it was scheduled for removal and -oops – they’d forgotted to sign it as such. Next day a sign was there saying it would be removed and it was gone by Friday afternoon (before Feb).
It was a good sized tree – will take decades to grow anyting back to similar size on that spot. It seems like urban forestry has been taking lots of trees out lately – I agree with Bobby that it would be nice to see some replacement trees put in ASAP. N. 22nd needs tree wells too.
Was there a list for January? I did not know this exited and three trees were tagged in front of our house saying not to park 100-feet on either side of them. Whatever was scheduled for the Tuesday we had snow and all city work was cancelled that day. The trees still remains tagged. It doesn’t say “removal”. I know the middle one had a lot of dead lower branches and has been leaning out towards the street while lifting up sidewalk bricks. I doubt it was there for brick work since I have been complaining about it for the past 7-years!
Be watchful… If the tree removed is very large and old, its roots may do a real number on pipes between the street and the house.
According to the city arborist, they are supposed to replace the trees that are removed. That is why it is important to let the city do the work on tree removal when the property is a public property, like a school. The tree that was taken down by Chimbo was taken by a private contractor and has no replacement scheduled.
