Communities in Schools has launched a fundraiser to help send the Armstrong Wrestling Team to wrestling camp this summer. As of right now they’ve raised $630 towards their goal of $3,465 and are asking for your help:

With a program focused on full mastery of fundamental wrestling techniques and superior mental toughness, Armstrong wrestling turned heads within the Richmond Metro area, producing five conference champions, with only eight wrestlers at the close of the season and taking home the Conference 26 runner-up trophy. This was all done with essentially brand new wrestlers, with the most wrestling experience set at two years.

In order to truly compete in the Region and get our students to state-placer level, wrestling camp is a necessity. However, our students and our school simply does not have the funds to make it happen. Our goal is two-fold, the more obvious one, is to learn the skills and mental toughness that one only receives from intensive wrestling training. The less obvious one is college exposure. By immersing our students in the college environment by having them stay there, it will give them a taste of college life and give them more reason to be there.

Our goal is to send each of our returning wrestlers to wrestling camp at University of Virginia. This is year one for us, we want to do this every year, so that our freshmen will be regarded as some of the most elite wrestlers in the state, which doesn’t happen often in inner-city schools.

We have seven returning wrestlers that we plan to send to camp. The cost of the camp will be $495 per wrestler. That puts our total cost needed at $3465.

With your help, we can start opening doors for students who have had so much closed on them, just based on where they live.
