Nikki at Proper Pie says watch out for fake money:
So fyi fellow business owners: This guy came in to the pie shop today trying to pay with a fake $20. The fake is thicker than normal and the print is fuzzy, but he was definitely trying to distract the pietender at the register (but Rachel and Liza were all over it and didn’t let him pull one over on them!) Anyway, the officer I spoke with recommended sharing via FB, so here it is. He wasn’t very tall, (about 5’6″?) braids, slim build, but baggy clothes, missing a tooth on the right side. Keep an eye out. Here’s a crappy photo.
Greater Church Hill Neighborhood Watch had notice on fake tens floating around a few weeks back.
I’ve had a few counterfeits in the past six months. Some are harder to spot than others. Mine have had that run thru the washer look. The paper seems pulpy.
Does the bill really look like Monopoly money?
I got one of the tens as change. It was convincing, but was the old style YET looked new, if that makes sense

In today’s age of electronics and everyone using the Debit or Credit Cards instead of Cash, they are preying on younger people who may have never used real cash to pay for things so are unsuspecting. I am guilty of never carrying cash and I am from the era that grew up only using it. Yes, the feel of the paper is the first red flag and like one poster her mentioned, the old style bills that are in new condition is another since the banks are not distributing them.
Proper Pie… congrats for the Channel 12 Restaurant Hall of Fame Award for acing health department inspections every time since you have opened!

Probably a pipe dream, but wouldn’t it be really cool if RPD did a little workshop in detecting fake bills, complete with examples?
