Recent robbery on 28th Street
Forwarded from Amanda at the Church Hill Crime Watch:
From: “Sayles, Jeremy S – Police Lt.”
Subject: Robbery / 200 block of North 28th
On 08/13/2015 at 21:45 hours Police Units responded to the 2700 block of East Broad Street for a robbery of an individual. The first unit arrived at 21:46 hours. The victim stated that she had just exited her vehicle at approximately 21:40 hours. She parked her vehicle in the rear alley of the 2700 block of East Broad Street. She then walked north in the 200 block of North 28th Street. The victim said she noticed two black males wearing dark colored hoodies walking in the same direction behind her but thought nothing of it.
The victim said one of the males grabbed her right arm from behind and said ”Give me your purse”. The victim told the subject to “Get off me.” She then felt something pushed in the back of her neck. That’s when Subject#1 said again “Give me your purse”. At that time the victim said “Okay fine”, and let the purse go. The victim said only Subject #1 touched her and at no time did Subject #2 do anything. The victim said he stood back watching. The victim also stated that neither subjects spoke to each other.
The suspects took the victims red and pastel purse containing an IPhone 6, several credit cards , keys and ID.
Units responded to canvass the area as well as K-9 units for a track of the area.
Suspects are described as:
Suspect 1
BM, 5,8. Approx 150 lbs, 25-30 yoa, facial hair around his mouth and a dark hoodie and dark colored pants or sweats.Suspect 2:
BM, 6’3, 190 lbs, unk on age range wearing a dark hoodie and dark jeans.
Found that purse. It’s at the police station on Q st. No phone, but keys, cc, and ID.
Do the police ever bother trying to use Find My Phone? That should be the first move they make if the trail is still warm.
Wow Rita – blame the victim much? 9:45 on a summer night, presumably parking close to your house? One block off Broad St which is really busy? That’s not really “IN AN ALLEY, ALONE, LATE AT NIGHT!” That is “near my house, in a populated area, in the early evening”. This robbery is really scary, how early it was, and in an area that usually gets foot traffic.
Pretty sure the attack happened on N. 28th St, which is not an alley.
@4 and @5, agreed and I’m betting the victim has off street parking behind her house which she has to go down the alley to use.
Frank, thank you for turning in my bag. The assailants turned the phone off immediately after they took it and you can not track the phone if it is off. I was parked in the off street parking behind my house and was walking down 28th street. What this article did not report is that they were seen walking around and looking into windows just 15 before they robbed me. If you see suspicious activity please report it to the police. They did an extent job and arrived on scene within minutes. The police and detectives really care about keeping our neighborhoods safe, I really appreciate how they are handling everything.
Folks,
PLEASE, PLEASE, ***PLEASE*** listen to the instincts we were all given (but regularly ingnoe): “The victim said she noticed two black males wearing dark colored hoodies walking in the same direction behind her but thought nothing of it.”
=Broken
RW, we are glad that you are OK. I have to reiterate – please call RPD for any suspicious activity!
@Gretta, I’m not blaming the victim, BUT I wouldn’t walk any alley alone, at night. Also, if I see any individuals wearing hoodies at night, i’m either getting back in my car, dialing 911, or running! @UnionHillian, I agree with you, “listen to your instincts”. East End has improved a lot, but its still not Mayberry!
A guy wearing a hoodie at night is reason to call 911? Really? Are we supposed to profile? The amount of dogwhistling is appalling.
I am very sorry that the victim was robbed. But those two scumbags are not reason for profiling or dogwhistling.
@BAF:
Read #7 again please:
“What this article did not report is that they were seen walking around and looking into windows just 15 (mins.) before they robbed me. If you see suspicious activity please report it to the police.” Despite all the confusion (Cultural. media & etc.), suspicious activity is suspicious activity is suspicious activity. When you see something suspicious, or “get that funny feeling”, does it matter whether the (suspicious) individual is wearing a hoodie, Ronald McDonald costume, Richard Nixon mask or etc.??!! Nope, it sure doesn’t. I am absolutely sick and tired of people second guessing how another individual should have acted in a situation ***AND*** adding insult to injury by saying they were prejudiced against/profiling the perpetrator of a crime
