Historic Richmond hosting design competition for infill buildings
Historic Richmond recognizes the needs and challenges of designing new construction on empty lots within the City of Richmond’s Old & Historic Districts. We are committed to maintaining the historic architectural integrity of Richmond while accommodating new buildings that will create our future legacy.
In an effort to encourage thoughtful and creative design and dialogue, Historic Richmond is hosting “Drawing on History: Infill Design Competition”. We believe Richmond’s irreplaceable built environment defines its character, and are committed to maintaining and building on that unique sense of place.
We invite students and professionals to submit design plans for single or multi-family dwellings on standard size lots, using 1) the Standards for New Construction as defined by the Handbook and Design Review Guidelines; 2) sustainable building methods; and 3) affordable pricing.
I just hope this is not a good idea that will go wrong with too modern of designs that do not “blend” with the immediate architecture per the Old & Historic guidelines. We have seen the disasters that CAR approved a few years past that completely overlooked this.
@Eric/#2 – Total agreement, man!
^^At the two commenters above. If that happens Richmond will be looking like NORFOLK. Makes me want to vomit. They completely destroyed the identity of Norfolk.
