TAGGED: post office
Actually, it’s 4-1/2 days. Not much better, but a bit (even with the lost hour for lunch during the four days).
Odds are, this reflects one worker gone, which will result in more inscheduled closures when remaining staff aren’t available.
WTF does this mean, Christine Greenberg?
While recognizing that some in the neighborhood cannot get to them, both the Klockner post office mentioned on the note and the post office at 7th and Main are much better operations with better staff and a setup that does not feel like you are doing a prison visitation.
Nobody can keep track of those spotty hours. Forget it, it’s closed in my mind now. Next
@6 – It’s a meme. As if to say “Not impressed.”
I recommend 2nd and Main, a one agent shop that is worth the visit. She is amazing: cheerful, outgoing and always with a good word and a welcoming smile.
She is what remains after the Post Office Administration wanted to close the shop and got a torrent of protest letters. She does them proud!
Niche Market Opportunity!:
Mobile “Stroops” cart or Sub Rosa coffee ‘n croissants (or an “Independant”) from 1:30>2:30???!
Really? Are they attempting to wean us off from they’re exemplary services? Afraid Church Hillians can’t go cold turkey on this dump? End it. End it now. And put all (most) of us out of our misery, PLEASE!
Hold on folks–before you condemn this post office, remember that at lot of our less-affluent neighbors in Church Hill depend on the services provided at the 25th Street Post Office.
Money orders are provided for folks who can not afford a checking account. Many of our neighbors depend on these money orders to pay their rent and/or electricity bill.
And a lot of our Church Hill neighbors do not drive/don’t own a car. Getting to one of the other USPS locations is not a viable option for these folks.
And a bunch of your neighbors have PO boxes there. Isn’t it better to have a walkable option for mail collection from your PO box?
Yeah, the place could use a make-over, and it’s often under-staffed. But consider for a moment the people who don’t have the resources to use alternative locations/other service providers.
Let’s use our voices support the PO staff/request better services rather than simply write them off.
Like anything, I am sure it is similar to price and demand as well as cost of overhead. Truly, how many people still go to this post office? Our delivery has been handled from Montrose for years now. You can buy money orders from Farm Fresh and probably stamps too. Montrose station is on the bus route. @15 Silvo mentioned 2nd and Main but there is also the Capitol Station at 8th and Main which is only 1.5 mile away and takes 6 minutes by car and on a bus route.
Also, I think PO Boxes have become a thing of the past. A lot of transactions, billing, correspondences happen by email or online. People have mailboxes on their houses or slots in their door unlike many 100 years ago when PO Boxes were more popular. We cut a slot in our door because the mailman would not look for our box and it is more secure that way.
Jesus, banker’s hours at the post office…WTF?!
I’m a huge fan of this location for a post office. I’ve had a PO BOX for a while, and love the security of that compared to a porch drop off. Also love that it is part of the fabric of our walkable neighborhood and not somewhere that I have to drive to.
While there are physical improvement that would be nice to see, the service that this location offers would be sorely missed by many if it were gone altogether.
