Liberty Public House “opening soon”
03/17/2016 12:07 PM by John M
Back in January, Liberty Public House was put the call out that they were hiring for a February opening, now their Twitter bio sets the date as April, 2016. Can’t wait to see this block of 25th start jumping.

Ah, so Jerry Falwell Jr. will not be there…
@1 ann… interesting comment. Could you elaborate? 🙂
Signage above doesn’t look very formal to me. Looks more “pub” than restaurant.
It’s true! Looks great!
It’s almost as if “pub” is short for “public house”…
Hopefully they’ll follow The Mill’s menu. Would be great to have more veg options in the neighborhood!
Can’t wait till you open!
@4 Hill Runner… to me this was a missed opportunity to continue with a theme with an Art Deco theater. Was hoping for more of a Speakeasy (Jackson Ward) type of atmosphere.
Delightful!
#8 agreed, but this is what you get when you crowdsource your branding. A tiny bit of paid marketing strategy could of gone a long way in this case.
#8 You are funny. That is the most weirdly specific complaint I’ve heard from you so far! I, on the other hand, was hoping for more of a ’70s Deep Throat vibe, since they showed porn in the theater during that time. Don’t forget about the 70s!
@11 Joe, I know you joke but seriously, l agree with @10. First, I was talking about the 1930s when the theater was opened in 1938 and had a restaurant down the block called The Hollywood Grill. Second, the theater did fall into hard times but not until after the “white flight” and closed in 1970, not “in” the ’70s. They showed free movies to children on Saturdays before they closed so doubt they also played porn at the same place? Afterwards it became mainly churches. Check out my article about Church Hill Theaters from the November/December 2013 CHA Newsletter (pages 16-18):

Also when I said to have a restaurant like the gorgeous Speakeasy in Jackson Ward, I didn’t mean replicate it… just the essence but in a more formal (Hollywood Glitz and Glamour) 1930s art deco theme. We need something with a more upscale atmosphere (but not prices) in Church Hill since we have a glut of casual places. Aren’t we worth being pampered?
It don’t even have to be that formal but different than “casual” like the old Brown Derby … or up to Ciro’s or the Coconut Grove. Old Hollywood theme.
