Chocolates by Kelly closing this Sunday
04/19/2016 4:03 PM by John M
As this real estate listing hinted, Chocolates by Kelly will be closing their location at 600 North 29th Street this Sunday.
The chocolatier expanded into a new production facility on Everett Streer off Jefferson Davis Highway last November, and sells chocolates through Outpost on Forest Hill Avenue.
Owner Kelly Walker Wombold says, “We are certainly not going out of business and employees will have the opportunity to come work in our production kitchen or at one of the many farmer’s markets we will be involved in around town.”
“It is a tough call but I gave it two years,” says Wombed of the 29th Street location. “We have never reached the numbers we need over there.”
The Church Hill store will close at 6:00 PM on Sunday evening, April 24th.
We went a few times. The prices were awfully steep for a meaningful snack. Made for an occasional nice gift for someone, but it struck us a bit precious for the neighborhood.
Bummer! They have amazing gelato that I was looking forward to now that it’s warmer 🙁
Also definitely going to miss the gelato. That’s one thing we could use elsewhere in the Hill here. (Plus their chocolates were awesome and make great gifts.)
Should check out the gelato at Castanea in Shockoe Bottom. Out of this world good.
I second the gelato at Castanea’s for sure!!
Church Hill continues to attract great concepts however the prices are always out of reach to continue to support. I went in there once with excitement but after witnessing the cost of the chocolate, I left empty handed and never returned.
The same goes for the new hot dog place where I recently tried the new vege dog and although it was very good, it was a very small portion for a 6 dollar hot dog. Again great idea, but I don’t expect it to do well due to their prices. They come and they go.
Hmmm….. what happened?
