Ground breaking today for Parsley’s Center for Healthy Communities

There was an official ground breaking ceremony today for Parsley’s Center for Healthy Communities at 2600 Nine Mile Road, with the goal to be open in September of this year.

Bon Secours’ David Belde said in January that the center will focus on clinical integration, community engagement, and workforce development.

The space will have 3 main components, including an 1,100 square-foot commercial kitchen used as headquarters for Class-A-Roll, community cooking classes, food skills training, space for community dinners, and more.

There will also be as 1,250 square foot coffee shop run by Church Hill Activities & Tutoring (CHAT), employing neighborhood youth as the core of CHAT’s entrepreneurship program. The space is being called “Dr.Joe’s” as a placeholder during the development process; look for more information as the year progresses.

The third piece is a 900 square-foot group health and community room, offering group-based health and wellness therapies, and which will be open to the public as a meeting space for neighborhood groups.

The Bon Secours Health Care Foundation is currently raising funds toward the $1.5 million cost of the center, which will be funded entirely by philanthropy.
