Seeking donation to replace a stolen bicycle

A neighbor who wishes to remain anonymous has written in
My elderly neighbor was robbed at gunpoint for his bicycle at some point this week or last week. He is the nicest, gentle, always happy guy. I don’t know the exact location where this occurred […] A I would like to do this man a service by replacing this bike. If anyone knows where to get an inexpensive or even free (not likely!) bike for a tall man, that would be great. He doesn’t expect it nor does he know about my efforts.
A simple fundraising effort has been proposed. Before we get there, though, I though we could ask – does anyone have a bicycle that they are not using and can donate?
I have a bike that could be repurpised. The seat may need to raised, it’s an old vintage thing but maybe it could be souped up with some steel wool, spray paint and a,new seat?
I’m sure Rag & Bones would help us with this. Anyone who has a bike that could be repurposed, it could be taken to them for low-cost repair/upgrade…maybe even free if you share the story. I’m happy to pitch in some dollars to help!
I can kick in some $ to help get a new bike or fix up an older bike – whatever you decide. What was he riding? We probably should stick as close to that as we can. For instance, if he was riding a 3 speed commuter we probably don’t want to get him a 24 speed road bike.
yep, it looks like a connection was made right before she pulled it down. awesome!
Doesn’t the local police have a bunch of unclaimed/ recovered bicycles? Or is that not something Richmond has like other cities?
As the original writer of the post, yes, THANK YOU ALL so very much today for all your efforts. I was able to purchase a great large size bike for $30 for my neighbor & just two blocks away!! What a grand collective effort! I am so fortunate to be living amongst this community. Forever grateful that you guys all had my back-
