The Lowe’s Charitable and Educational Foundation has awarded a $5,000 Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant to Armstrong High School for the creation of a girls’ softball field to be used for practices, games, camps and clinics.

“Our school and community will greatly benefit from this grant,” says softball coach Glenn Anderson, “We wish to thank our friends at Lowe’s for generously supporting this important project.”

This project is designed to create a regulation girls’ softball field for little league and high school competition. The development of the field will include but not limited to the following: Dirt infield, fencing, dugouts, etc. The project is expected to be completed by the spring of 2017.

Without the capability to host home games, the softball and baseball teams are cut off from the most basic fundraising that are available to the basketball and football teams. Boys’s Baseball Coach Day day also laments the lost opportunity for the community to come out and see a game, to support and cheer for the team.

Softball Coach Glenn Anderson had earlier estimated that it would take $35,000 to put in a new softball field, and has already secured a $2,500 grant from the Enrichmond Foundation.

Armstrong High School is one of 592 schools across the United States to be awarded a Lowe’s Toolbox for Education grant during its fall 2015 grants cycle for improvement projects. Since its inception in 2005, Lowe’s Toolbox for Education has provided more than $45 million in grants to more than 10,000 schools, benefiting more than 6 million schoolchildren.
