Volunteers needed for social visits with older neighbors

06/24/2016 7:01 AM by

Family Lifeline is seeking volunteers to provide weekly friendly visits, companionship, advocacy and fun to older adults experiencing isolation and loneliness in the Greater Richmond area.

“Recently I met a wonderful 98 year old woman who lives in the Church Hill area,” says Family Lifeline’s Colleen Wilhelm, “She has lived in her own home independently for a long time but now her health has declined and is in need of friendly visitor. While she has friends and church members visiting her – given that she is homebound – she needs some extra companionship and conversation to keep her mind and spirit strong.”

Hours are flexible and depend on the needs of the volunteer and their older friend. Requirements include: a commitment, must be age 18 or older, attend volunteer training, and a pass background check.

Contact volunteer@familylifeline.org for more information and/or application materials.
