Man and woman shot on Bethel Street (UPDATE)

Bethel Street Homicide
Gunshots rang out in Whitcomb Court just before midnight this morning, injuring two people. Shortly after the shooting, one of those victims died.
At approximately 11:51 p.m. last night, officers responded to the 2300 block of Bethel Street for reports of shots fired and persons shot. They arrived to find two adult victims, one male and one female, suffering from apparent gunshot wounds.
Both victims were taken to a local hospital where the male victim later succumbed to his injuries. The female victim is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries.
A large group of people were present at the scene when officers arrived. Investigation revealed a party was happening in the area.
“An altercation took place between some of the people present then gunshots sounded and struck the victims,” said Lt. Jason Hudson with the Major Crimes Division. “We’re asking the community to help us identify anyone who may have been involved in this incident.”

The shooting occurred just before midnight in the 2300 block of Bethel Street. When police arrived, they found one male and one female victim suffering from gunshot wounds. The male victim was transported to VCU Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The female victim suffered non-life threatening injuries.
It’s worth noting that the RRHA had their own police until they disbanded in 2014 (http://wtvr.com/2014/03/31/rrha-police-ends/). The last 2 years haven’t been quiet, for sure.
The man who was shot to death is Joseph C. Johnson, 44, of the 1900 block of Whitcomb Street.
