Man shot near Chimborazo Park
12/01/2016 8:34 PM by John M
Police said the shooting happened at 5:30 p.m. at the intersection of E Grace Street and Government Road.
The male victim was stuck in the leg and transported to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
What the hell?? Details please.
Are all of these recent shootings just random, folks with weak anger management skills, or is there a criminal connection over drug debts owed,…? I just thought I heard a few gun shoots coming from an easterly direction about a half hour ago.
I heard shots at about this time yesterday, coming from this direction (I had just gotten home) There were 5 or 6 shots in a row. Anyone else hear them? Normally I don’t hear gunfire until much later in the evening. Sad to say I did not call the police yesterday…
Following up on #2, I’d be curious to know what percentage of this year’s killings is drug-related.
I heard shots last night around 8:30 or so, which is unusual – typically, I hear them after 10:30. It is getting dark earlier, I suppose. Does that explain anything?
Less cops = more drugs = more crime and killings
I was once told by a Richmond detective that he did not remember the last time a killing was NOT drug related.
I don’t know if anyone has noticed the last two years, but ever since there has been a shortage of police, they have started leaving their blue lights on the patrol cars The idea behind this is to have more visibility and perception of the same amount cops even though there are really less out there on the street.
It is a trickle down effect: How likely are police going to get involved in pursuing a crime when they know they will not have back up …..?
Stats show even with the new approval of training for new RPD officers, it still wont match the rate at which officers are leaving….
So what does this all mean? We are headed back to the wild west days of the 90’s…
Timesdispatch is reporting one fatality.
Drugs are not the only reason for gun violence. Quite a few shootings in the Church Hill area were domestic related or involved a love triangle. I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that we are headed back to the “wild west” days.
@chris – unless I’m missing it, I think you’re seeing the fatality from a southside shooting
@tiny
Give some examples of killings that had no association with drugs ….
@daniel – This domestic incident last year became a homicide when the victim later died http://wtvr.com/2015/12/31/man-suffers-life-threatening-injuries-after-richmond-stabbing/
@ John
Thanks for the posting. But just keep in mind, just because it appeared to be domestic, doesnt rule out that there wasnt drug involvement.
My whole point here is that MOST of the time people get killed, it’s drug related in someway… but hey that’s just what the police and detectives have told me over the years…
whats up with all the shootings on church hill??? People say how nice it is, yet I hear gun shots every other night?
@13–this is still an urban neighborhood, with the good and the bad that go along with it. People who come here should be prepared for that, but somehow they think that they’re just moving into a really hip suburb. Take care, use common sense and you’ll be okay.
@14 hearing gun shots every night is not indicative of “an urban neighborhood.” I’ve never experienced anything like the gunfire here in D.C., New Orleans, or Jackson, MS. It’s a serious problem, and one that I hope the City eventually cracks down on.
Matt @15- where about in the neighborhood do you live?
