ChildSavers wins $500,000 2016 Community Innovation Grant from Robins Foundation
ChildSavers, in partnership with SCAN and Richmond Public Schools, will create a trauma-informed school network that quickly addresses the need of the students and builds resiliency and other critical social skills in eight schools and helps nearly 4,500 children in the East End. The partnership will “inject trauma-informed competencies into the schools and provide family education in the community.”
Teachers will receive education and ongoing support to ensure that they’re able to adequately address the needs of their students. The Community Innovation Grant will also allow ChildSavers to provide in-school clinical therapy to students who have been impacted by trauma in their homes and communities.
Runner-up RVA Pathways has been awarded a $250,000 2nd prize. With the CIG Funding, the MCV Foundation in partnership with the Richmond Police Department will create a model for reaching the youth in the community at risk for being involved in violence related activities. Through the RVA Pathways project youth will be connected with services and opportunities to help support the transition into a safe and productive adulthood.
