Public meeting set on Glenwood Ridge Apartments
A meeting with the developers of the proposed Glenwood Ridge Apartments at the bottom of Glenwood Avenue has been set for March 30, 2017, at the Powhatan Recreation Center at 6:30 PM.
The proposed 82-unit, affordable housing apartment complex consists of two 3-story (on a podium) buildings on the site of the old trolley barn off of Glennwood Avenue.
The project is by-right based on the the zoning (zoned R-63 in 2010), with 82 units an effective under-utilization of the potential density of the location. The project is in the early stages and still need to go before Planning and to be permitted by the city. Doran stated that they hope to have permits by April.
The first meeting with Shane Doran from the Humanities Foundation and lawyer T. Preston Lloyd, Jr. of Williams Mullen was hastily organized in early February after the demolition permit for the trolley barn came to light.

Would those people who are committed to stopping this development, for whatever reason, like to have a sit down meeting to combine our efforts, organize our resistance, share and exchange information and ideas, etc.? I think it would be really great to attend this meeting on March 30 with a unified voice of opposition and a basket full of facts to confront this developer with as to why his project is not welcome in our neighborhood.
Would love to attend and support this effort to stop this project as it is currently designed. We can do so much better! Don’t have much knowledge of the workings of City government. We need guidance from experienced individuals to be successful.
@Dave- Yes, absolutely.
Dave, suggest a place and time to make this happen
Sign me up for that coordination meeting too.
@1 Dave, I’m open to hosting or participating.
It’s really great to have people interested! How does Thursday March 9 at 6:30 pm work with everyone’s schedule? I think a coffee shop (buzzy’s maybe) or a library (library of va) could work. I’m really open to any and all ideas
Or the upstairs space at the Starbucks in the Farm Fresh possibly.
@6. That would be great too! If you’re willing to host however many people may show up.
great idea, please count me in, just say the final time and location
Count me in, I will put March 9th on my calendar–just please confirm time and location–thank you!
I would also be interesting in attending the pre-meeting on March 9th.
I, too, would like to join. What time?
@9 – Dave, et. al. We can use some meeting space in my office building at Fulton Hill Studios, the former Robert Fulton Elementary school.
Fulton Hill Studios is located at 1000 Carlisle Avenue, Richmond, VA 23231. We can meet in the gallery on the second floor at 6 pm.
We have ample parking.
My email address is jondrak@fultonhillproperties.com if you would like to correspond prior to the meeting.
@14 Jon, that sounds great. Thanks for letting us use your space!
Added to my calendar.
So March 9th at 6 pm at the address above? thank you!
@17 and everyone else…that is correct. Thursday (3/9) at 6:00pm at Jon’s workplace mentioned in 14 above. I look forward to meeting and seeing you all there! I envision this being an open table type discussion where we can all share our thoughts on the project, it’s current status with the city, and the various avenues in which there could be an opportunity to prevent this from moving forward.
