Lot being cleared for apartment development on Marshall Street

We’ve been tracking proposed development at 1903 East Marshall Street for almost a decade (before the Cold Storage renovations, even).
The last we heard, the property was slated to become a six-story apartment building with 130 one-bedroom and 48 two-bedroom units.
Oh snap
With all these new apartments, hope the city has a plan to relieve the increased traffic this complex will bring. It’s bad enough as it is during morning and afternoon rush hours.
Less apartments and more parking!
Hopefully they put in some parking!!
More parking doesn’t do anything but cause increased traffic as those cars hit the road. Instead, the city could consider actually serving the east end with reasonable bus service and bike lanes.
Larger/wider roads and more parking just induce people to drive. Also, I’ve heard Detroit has some of the least congested roads and shortest commutes to work for an American city. Ever hear anyone say “no one goes there anymore because it’s so crowded?” I can’t remember who said that, but seems appropriate…

Between the commuters that park on Marshall, the VCU kids that park on Marshall and Ram Ride in, this, and Patrick Henry Sq, residents w/no offstreet are screwed. Stay tuned.

The plan is called bus rapid transit. Is it good enough? No, but its a start. The solution is more public transit, bike, and pedestrian infrastructure.
All weekend, dump trucks have been going by ny house in the 300 block of 31st. I followed behind one (by chance) long enough to discover that they are hauling dirt from the 1903 Marshall Street construction and dumping it down the hill by the overlook on Grace, between 31st & 32nd. I hope they have a permit. Today there was a Bobcat going up and down the hill smoothing out the dirt.
I live within earshot of this development. I can see it from my window.
I’m SO GLAD it’s happening. I wish it was taller, but 6 floors isn’t bad. I just hope they don’t have any or very limited surface parking.
It’s a perfect location since you can walk to the 17th st. market, farm fresh, etc. Also they’ll be very close to the BRT.

Yeah. So, Cedar/Broad appartments hardly have parking as it is, we need the street parking and now there will be less? For what reason?
Word to the wise: because of this development, you can now no longer drive eastbound on Marshall between 19th and 20th.
And 20th between Broad and Marshall is one way north. The good news is, all the commuters that park on Marshall had a rude awakening the other morning when the barriers went up.
