Williamsburg Avenue Train Pedestrian Fatality
The Richmond Police Department is investigating the death of a man who was struck by a train this morning in the city’s east end.
At approximately 7:21 a.m., Tuesday, March 7, RPD officers responded to a report by a passerby of a person down on the train tracks in the 3300 block of Williamsburg Avenue. When they arrived, they located James D. Wyche, 64, of the 1300 block of Jennie Scher Road, lying between the rails a few yards from the north side of the roadway.
Wyche was pronounced dead at the scene by a paramedic with the Richmond Ambulance Authority. It was apparent Wyche was struck by a train.
The medical examiner will determine the exact cause and manner of death. Foul play is not suspected at this time.
RPD detectives are working with investigators from the Norfolk Southern Corporation to determine when the victim was struck. They expect to learn more once they interview the engineer and conductor of a train that was travelling that stretch of track at approximately 3:30 a.m. today.
