I live around the 29th and broad area of church hill and had my car stolen last night/this morning for the second time in 4 months. The car was locked and even had a theft lock on the steering wheel. Car thefts have been a huge issue in the neighborhood according to the police. Just a heads up.
Our East End Crime Map has been updated, now with data from from January 1, 2011 through yesterday.
Geez Louise!! Twice?? What kind of car do you drive??
There was a party at that house (we live on the same block) and rumor has it that it was an inside job.
Trish, I’d keep comments like that to yourself if I were you as this is an ongoing investigation.
Hmmm. Crime incident log states that the theft took place on the 200 block of North 30th…which is it- Broad ST OR CLOSER TO THE PLAYGROUND ON 30TH?
Kay9 – FWIW, the crime data comes in as “29xx block of”, and I format it to 2900 to get it mapped. Could be anywhere on the block.
John- I’m looking at the city website and it shows 200 block of N. 30th??
So it would’ve been “2xx block of” getting converted to 200. Same deal, could be anywhere on that block.
The condos and apartments on the south side of the block have their parking spaces backing up to the basketball courts at Chimborazo Playground. However, the single family homes only have street parking, so it’s pretty likely that the car in question was parked on 30th Street behind the playground, which would be the 200 block, as the theft victim lives in a single family house.
Kay9 – Why does it matter???
@9…IMO it would be very surprising to have a car stolen from the 2900 block of Broad because it is very open, bright, well traveled, and in very plain sight of many. Unless one left the keys in the car and it was running, it’s not likely.
However, the vibe is very different in the 200 block of N. 30th (as stated in the police report regarding where the theft took place). This area is dark, secluded, not well traveled and backs up to a very dark alley and playground. I’m not surprised a theft took place there.
Place matters.
