No killings in the East End outside of Mosby
05/30/2017 8:30 AM by John M
Underscoring the ongoing violence out of Mosby Court is another fact worth noting: there have been no homicides in any of the rest of the East End. Whitcomb, Fairfield, Creighton, Fulton, Fairmount, Brauers, Woodville, Church Hill North – none have seen a killing this year.
This is exactly what I’ve been saying! There seems to be a real underlying problem with Mosby lately. Whitcomb & Creighton has historically been more violent than Mosby, yet nowadays there’s barely any shootings in those projects let alone fatal ones. If all these shootings wasn’t happening in Mosby the East End would have ZERO murders.. pinpoint the problem. That place was a hotbed for heroin when I lived in that area (mid 90’s) and now that heroin made a complete comeback I’m almost certain that’s what’s driving all the violence there today
I’ve heard that it’s increased gang activities, much like Baltimore.
Gangs follow money. There has to be a reason people are coming into Mosby and doing business there- it’s not the residents or we would see a similar trend at Fairfield and Creighton.
It’s also worth noting that it is one of the more disconnected courts; I would venture to guess that most people in Church Hill have driven by Creighton, but never ventured up Littlepage. That isolation, over time, can do something to a community. That separation communicates something to a community, even if subconscious, even if unintentional.
@3, I’m pretty sure it’s possible that the residents of one project taken as a group, could be more welcoming of crime and criminals than the residents of another nearby project. Or more afraid. Or more gangster themselves.
It looks like all three are true in Mosby court right now.
Close it and disperse the residents. To places where they will have a harder time committing crimes, hosting visiting career criminals, and where– if hey were afraid to speak up in Mosby– they won’t need to feel so afraid.
Which is approximately anywhere in Richmond or the counties.
Um, yay?
time for the other areas to step up their game

@Bryan Brodie,
Really? Not funny and in very poor taste.
@8, thank you.
@7, ew.
@7 Considering the tragic circumstances here, your attempt at humor is appalling.
I already explained it to you people. Thanks again for explaining it @ #2 TRISH.
It’s two things. HOMEGROWN GANGS VS NATIONAL GANGS AND ALOT OF HEROIN! Mosby is probably doing what 5 kilos or more of heroin a month or $40k a day. Whoever is supplying Mosby is getting paid! The guys you see standing on the corner in the projects are only making enough to buy sneakers and daipers for there baby.

Fifteen, 20 years ago, 1 kilogram of heroin cost $120,000 to $160,000 in Baltimore. Today: $60,000 to $70,000. Purity then was 2 to 5 percent. Today, it’s as high as 85 percent,” Tuggle said.
I think we all need to rewatch The Wire.
I think CHP is bad luck . Whitcomb Court recorded a homicide today, maybe two!
Had to jinx it, didn’t ya!
There were at least two homicides on Jennie Scher in December, and will probably be more this summer 🙁
And it’s the slow train that beats the drug trade, just not fast, and never totally.
Projects by definition block development, and Richmond- with emphasis on the east end- has too many of them.
@11, your take on this seems to stop at :”its local versus national
Gangs, with herion”. I don’t think anyone needs that explained– gangs and herion being the subject of many a post, news story, documentary, and local street corner. I’d like to hear your answer to the follow up question ” If those things are true, then what? Accept it? Revel in it? Take action against it? And if it’s action against it you’d advocate, what would you suggest?
@J At least for now, the police are calling the Whitcomb shooting death a “death investigation” instead of a homicide.
John M, I guess RTD got it wrong when they reported @ 3:30 today, “A man was killed Wednesday night in a shooting in the Whitcomb Court public housing complex in Richmond’s East End, police said Thursday.” Released from the RPD. Key word is killed, not self-inflicted.
@mark – not saying that. Could end up being called self-defense or justifiable homicide or whatever. Still killed.
