Why does it take so long to get a new super can?
06/12/2017 7:26 AM by John M
From the Church Hill Neighborhood Facebook Group:
Question: do you guys know if there’s any way too speed up the reception of a new trash bin from the city? Do we just keep calling?
(Ours finally cracked to pieces/was tossed out with the trash, we requested a new one, and they said 3-6 weeks for delivery.)
Our can broke & was tossed, too – back in April. Still waiting for the replacement.
TAGGED: question
Because it’s apparently a very high-security/high-risk exchange requiring the appropriate levels of bureaucracy, clearances, and the like. Real Rain-in-Spain type stuff, y’know?
Maybe they will allow you to pick it up yourself if you cannot wait. My daughter ordered one and they said 3-6 weeks but it took less than 3 weeks.
I don’t know why it takes so long but I’ve been waiting for 3 months now. I keep meaning to contact the City again to check on the status but the first time was such a pain in the ass that I can’t bring myself to do it.
Breau Brothas. They are god awful!
I actually got my super can within a week and the lady told me it would take 5-12 business days depending on their schedule. Not sure if any of this info helps, but I talked to someone in person and explained to them what happened (mine just disappeared) and she took my address down and explained to me how new cans are sent out
when I had to replace mine a year ago the city said I had to contact Waste Mgmt (3rd party who handles waste collection)
this reminds me, i need to request one..
We’ve requested ours last Thursday. Let’s see how long it takes!
I ordered one around the beginning of April and was told it could take up to three months. Haven’t seen a super can yet.
Same thing happened to me. Trash man took cans from both my properties. Coincidence? Not. Raised a huge stink over the theft of two totally new supercans. Advised I’d be posting to this group – which really puts their willingness to tell taxpayers to go fuck themselves right out there. Their replacement was immediate.
I had called and requested one – 3 weeks later no can. I called again and explained how animals were getting into the trash I had left out (and sounded really sad about it), and I had one in a day.
Less than 10 days ago I requested a new can. The person on the phone, a city employeef was very helpful. The can was delivered on a Sunday. It was placed over my rear fence into my backyard. I was pleasantly surprised. I live right off of East Broad Street near Chimborazo Park. On this occasion the people involved were vert polite and very.
We requested one and it came in about a week. Don’t know why your’s is taking so long. We also tip the garbage men around Christmas and the mailman, so we have absolutely no problems with mail or trash. Think about maybe not being so ‘tight.’ Spread a $20 here and there and watch how the world takes better care of you.
@Cheeslesy
Good idea! We tipped our mailman last year and have never had another issue with the mail. You got to pay to play.
I have been waiting 2 months after the garbage men tore out top off and threw it on the Lawn
John White, they refused to give us a new lid even though they were the ones to throw it away. Said time had expired to get a new can and they don’t have replacement lids. Grrr…
We had a fire in our trash can, from a cigarette that a passer by threw into our super can. The can melted into a solid puddle on the curb and sidewalk. My husband called and explained the situation. The person from the city was extremely pleasant. We got two cans for some reason. So we share it with our neighbors and everything is okay. We are doing much better with an extra can. If you need to throw some garbage away contact me and I will tell you where it is and you can us the can until your arrives.
It’s ridiculous. Mine took over 3 months!!
It’s a problem for us as new residents too. Requested ours back in October and have been calling every month since then and speaking to multiple humans – no can. My husband finally spoke to the guys as they came by Thursday for pickup and they said they’d get us one. Will see what happens!
I had to speak to the Superintendent for nearly 2 hrs and explain how feeding the local wildlife is a great way to spread disease before they magically located a new can and had one first thing the next morning. Sadly I think it comes down to money and what part of town you are in.
Why DOES it take so long to get a new super can?
