What to do about a litter of kittens at the abandoned house next door?
07/04/2017 7:31 AM by John M
Suggestions?
I have some kittens that were born and living next door under the abandoned house. Looks to be 5 kittens and possibly two female adults. I dont want them to starve so i have been feeding them. I was wondering if you know anyone willing to humanely trap these cats and get them spayed/neutered so they wont breed anymore. While they are very adorable, I am not sure how much longer I can afford to feed these cats. I have reached out to the Richmond SPCA and unfortunately no one has returned my call.

Call Richmond Animal Care & Control @ 804.646.5573.
Check with Church Hill Animal Hospital. They used to have have-a-heart traps they’d loan out, and can put you in touch with the group that spays and neuters feral cats. Also talk to Richmond Animal Care and Control, which can find homes for all those kittens.
Where are these kitties!!??? Maybe we can get them adopted
I went through that w a rental house. Ultimately I believed the best decision was Richmond Animal Control. They really do a good job there finding homes. You kinda need to get the parents too so they don’t keep having more. I have a cage if you need to borrow that.
We’ve brought them to Richmond Animal Control. We have a spare carrier for them if you need.
Reach out to Richarsons Rescue. I know they partner with some rescuers in Church Hill
I have a trap and can help. I can also reach out to someone else in the neighborhood who does the same thing.
Please do as suggested by #2. Church Hill Animal Hospital has worked aggressively to help our feral cat population and hopefully still do: http://www.churchhillanimalhospital.com/
I have had very good luck with RACC. Theirs hours are weird and it seems like they only have two guys for the whole city. I just keep calling and they usually show up same day. Fireworks may have them busier than normal with escaped/scared pets.
Richmond Animal League too is a great resource especially if mama is a feral. They can come and scoop the mama and spay her for free. Richmond Animal Control also a good call of course because you can surrender directly to RAL.
https://www.richmondspca.org/page.aspx?pid=554 – I am willing to pay cage/trap rental fee if someone would take the kittens to SPCA.
I agree with Lora @2, call Church Hill Animal Hospital. Nan Jack there will help.644-8200 is the phone. And you should take up Teresa on that trap (@4).
@churchillstreetkitties on Instagram takes in and fosters cats and kittens, she spays/neuters and gets them their shots then adopts them out.
Church Hill Street Kitties might be able to help.

Several of you have offered to help which I am so thankful for! If you do want to help me, please email me at jj89227@gmail.com so we can coordinate something. I live right on Williamsburg Rd so I really also dont want them roaming off into the busy street.
I call churchill animal hospital and was told to call richmond animal control. If i do that wont they be put down if they cant be adopted?
You can TNR them. I can lend you the traps. Even if animal control takes the kittens to be adopted, the other cats need to be spayed and neutered so you do not get another litter later this summer 🙂
