Holton’s Hudson named new principal at Franklin Military
08/04/2017 8:34 AM by John M
From K. Burnell Evans at the RTD:
After 14 years at the helm, [David] Hudson is leaving to begin this academic year at Franklin Military Academy, and returning to the building on North 37th Street where he once taught.
The move is part of a broader strategy the Richmond school system is undertaking to retain students during the middle school years, said interim Superintendent Tommy Kranz.
I’ve missed news about Richmond’s school system losing students during the middle school years. Can anyone expand on this as in: how many RPS students drop out during middle school annually and what has RPS done to date to stop the exodus.
There’s been a cry by some to hit the taxpayer for from $22 to $35 million dollars for a new elementary school since a “new school will make students learn better.” At least one person stated that the George Mason school needs to be replaced with a new facility because what’s there now is like whar’s found in a third world country – which is unmitigated BS.
Many of us have read how well the concept of buiding a new school to elevate students’ learning capacity or ability or desire has worked…a prime example being the new Martin Luther King Jr Middle School. To do the same to replace Geotge Mason would be a costly example of the sunk cost fallacy at which Richmond excels.
But if that middle school has lost enough students, if enough if them gave dropped out to pursue other options, change the school’s name and put the elementary kids there.
Mary – it’s not kids dropping out, but parents who have the option sending their children to somewhere other than the public option school. I think this is more common for elementary schools like Fox or Holton, less so in the East End.
John…RTD quote vague. We’ll miss having your translations.
