You can not see this house
08/24/2017 7:36 AM by John M
There is a house at 29th and Broad Street that is mysteriously shrouded on Google Street View.
TAGGED: Broad Street
Hmmmm… that’s very very odd. I call it the Trump house because of their HUGE Trump flag.
I believe you can have Google do that to your property.
Just curious as to why you would feel the need to block the view of your house?
Hmm.
In mass media, Personal Privacy Rights/Protection extend to images of oneself and one’s property. While harm from commercial use/mass-publication of a property’s images is more difficult to prove (compared to one’s likeness,) a signed photo release is SOP nowadays. Otherwise, the owner has the right to deny commercial/mass media use.
He probably thinks Obama is watching him.
@2 yep Tim’s got it. You can request privacy from Google streetview. More common in Europe.
@Kathleen There are some privacy oriented folks who feel being seen on something like Google Maps violates their right to privacy. I don’t necessarily agree, but hey, it’s their house.
I guess Trump supporters are afraid of people knowing them
You can request through Google to have your things blocked out. I haven’t seen a house yet, but cars, people, etc.
why make it political? Maybe they just want privacy?
Actually the house is haunted and the residents vampires so it doesn’t show up on cameras.
Tim Grape I’m pretty sure this house has a giant Trump flag so that’s why.
Tim Grape it’s a joke
I agree Tim Grape. Aren’t things political enough these days…can’t we all just be good neighbors and support each others personal right to privacy?
The house is not really there but is a ghostly apparition! ?
Holly, nothing to be “afraid” about.
Residence of Grand Viceroy of Trumpistan, very hush hush.
But for real this is some snowflake-level ish, IMO. What does this blurring accomplish?
I’m pretty sure John Cena lives there which is why you can’t see it
I am highly amused that, by requesting anonymity on Google Street View, the owner of this house has actually drawn more attention to their house than if they had not done so.
I have pictures of this house… it might even be in a book!
I heard CAR uses google street view to tell if you have made changes to the exterior of your house….. could be for that?
perhaps this house is a little self-conscious about its looks. Hard to blame it with all the house shaming going on these days. lest we forget, homes are people too…
Glad they took that flag down though.
Protecting his privacy from Google, aka SkyNet.
looks like it’s slipping into a different (and undoubtedly more sane) dimension.
I do love the pride flags and other love filled messages neighbors have outside their homes on that block though
Clay Street, still bitter that things didn’t go your way on election day?
I think they can’t figure out how to get that freaking HUGE Trump flag off of the front of their house and they’re embarrassed by it.
How is this “news”? Houses are blurred all over the city. It’s pretty typical. What is notable, however is that we have finally reached the tipping point where privacy has become the anomaly and narcissistic exhibitionism is the norm. And if you do claim your right to privacy, you end up ringing the dinner bell for some neo-macarthyist, alt-leftist, nut-job, internet bully.
I suppose I didnt need to include the words, “alt-left nut job” to make the general point… I shouldn’t be taking any side of that turd-coin
I love this house for the vertical lattice under the porch, one of my fav details on old houses.
@ Jeff #30 & #31…help a sister out. How do you get “Alt Left” and “Mc Carthy” on the same side of your turd coin? Super interested.
(Apologies for being off topic but I feel I must surely be missing something here)
Thanks, John, for finally a sane comment on this thread!
Anyone can have their house blurred, just contact Google. There is a house right around the corner from me that is blurred out.
@22/Daniel – I went to CAR to find out my house paint color. They went through the file (2 year old house) and had NO record of the color. “We must of approved it through email,” was their response. So they went on google street view to look at the house and tell me the color. Seriously. CAR uses it.
@25 – Google has the information. They’re the ones blurring it from others’ viewing.
33 kat j. because they are fundamentally the same type of waste

Well… the huge Trump flag is back up this morning
Oh my gosh Laurie…thank you for the newsflash! You know, when I see something I don’t like and if it’s clearly none of business, I usually just ignore it. Maybe give it a try; Catch my drift?
Flying a flag is a very public statement David. If they (you?) don’t want people to talk about the stupid flag, don’t fly it.
There is an option to opt out of google street view.
@ David – was making a statement as someone noted the flag was down. Thanks for chiming in, Bully!
Thank goodness there’s a ‘Nice Dave’… agree!! 🙂
I’m shutting this one down for a bit. Go play outside y’all.
