RRHA has purchased the East Lawn shopping center:
Richmond Redevelopment and Housing Authority has purchased the Eastlawn Shopping Center at Nine Mile and Creighton roads in Richmond’s East End.
The housing authority paid $1 million for the property, which city records show is assessed at $859,000 — $233,000 for the land and $626,000 for the buildings.
City Council contributed $200,000 from the city towards the purchase price back in June.

Million $ hard spent, why not for private venture that costs no tax $ and generates tax revenue. Great system.
Wasn’t this going to be a grocery store and a J Sarg culinary school?
@Samuel – the grocery store and cooking school are coming to 25th and Nine Mike. East View is 5 or 6 blocks east of that.
Gotcha, thanks for the clarification
What the hell? The same RRHA that has proven they can’t manage their own affairs?
Not surprised but what are they going to do with it?
Have they found a replacement store? The first guy who was supposed to be subsidized pulled out of the deal saying he was too busy in tidewater area.
Betty Betsy Migliaccio – nothing has been announced, but the main financial backer has said that everything is still on track. Folks close to the project have been saying for a while – before anything was announced – that it is not dependent on the one operator.
John excellent news. I wasn’t sure how that was going to change plans
@Tammie – it’s part of the whole redevelopment of that end of Nine Mile/Creighton
Wow
I thought that was postponed four years.
I would love to utilize that space
Emily Klinedinst nah, they just bumped the deadline back again. Keep hearing groundbreaking in 2018.
Yay
@church hills peoples news Do you have any information on what’s going on with the Creighton court redevelopment? I thought that the project was going to start this summer? I see that the school is torn down
I send out a few emails a few weeks ago, never heard back. I just reached out again. Thanks for the reminder.
One of the “R”s in RRHA should stand for Ridiculous. Get our public money out of their hands. They own Far too much real estate all over town that would be privately redeveloped (on average) in a much more positive way. They need to have a scheduled monthly auction of their real estate.
This great news, they can close all those run downs stores and fake corner store business. The home owner in this area deserve better.
