Candlelight Walk and Holiday House Tour

The Annual Church Hill Candlelight Walk, held on the evening of Friday December 8th, was a magical holiday event. A group of hearty and joyful walkers (Union Hill Association) began the walk at Jefferson Park at 7:30 pm led by bagpipers and drummers. Just in time, the rain and sleet turned into big, fluffy snowflakes that floated down on the parade as the cheerful sounds of the crowd echoed through our village.

The Union Hill residents and friends were joined at Patrick Henry Park by those who attended Vespers at St. John’s Church. The glow of candles and the sound of bagpipes and drummers moved with the crowd as they made their way through the historic streets of Church Hill on to Libby Hill Park. There the crowd was met by Sean Priest and his gang of elves from “Home Town Realty Services”. They generously provided and served hot chocolate and cookies for all the good boys and girls.

“The Good Old Richmond Holiday Rambler Boys.” led the caroling in front of the view of downtown Richmond all lit up for the holidays. The crowd sang “Here Comes Santa Clause” to announce the arrival of jolly Santa in his big red suit. He passed out candy canes and posed for memorable family pictures with children of all ages. Caroling continued as snowmen were built, dogs rolled in the snow and friends and families enjoyed what was a very special event. It was a magical holiday moment that will be cherished by many for years to come.
