Local website “not that funny”
04/01/2009 3:23 PM by John M
Local “news site” Church Hill People’s News, in a lame attempt at seasonal humor, posted several half-assed April Fools stories early this morning. “I’ve been spending too much time with middle school kids”, site author Murden said when called on his juvenile prank. [via]
Well I enjoyed it.
Spoofing your own prank now that is so last year
Not only was it funny but Mad Maggie might decide it’s a good idea, help sell her new condo’s to have an Arby’s close by
Update Spoofing a spoofed article causes poster to loose spoof pointing out privilages news at 11
Me too. And I wish at least a few of them were true…
I did too…And for a minute I thought some of the stories were true…
Thanks for the fun today John!
You owe me a cupcake.
John,
You are a genius…. and that ain’t no April Fool!
Wait wait wait – no cupcakes? Now that’s just mean.
I would’ve loved some cupcakes, too. Or if we’re going to steal from Portland, how about a great biscuit shop? It says good things about our neighborhood that this was believable.
Apparently the po-po’s were getting calls about “The M Street Hooligans”, I hope that I’m not in trouble on that one 🙂
The Robinson Theater story was inspired by this real Richmond story.
I was trying to find a place to put a Chick-fil-a in the neighborhood, and suddenly the East End theater became a fancy Arby’s. It says good things about our neighborhood that this idea is ludicrous enough to be funny.
My favorite piece of all of this was mis-identifying
Mark Warnersome random dude as Sam Patterson in the photo accompanying the post about the council seat. The M Street Hooligans are real!
Oh my, those biscuits look awesome…I’d take that over a cup cake place any day.
“The Robinson Theater story was inspired by this real Richmond story.”
That’s not the way I remember it.
I recall either the Biograph or the Lee Art down the street got busted for showing “Miss Jones” and got even by putting a full page ad in the papers claiming they were going to show “Beaver Valley”, uncut and uncensored.. a film of nature gone wild… the next night.
Sure as shootin, the vice squad showed up with half the Richmond Police Force. The screen went dark and up pops “Beaver Vally” as promised. It truly was “nature gone wild”, as produced by….pause…. Walt Disney.
Damn. I thought I was going to have to battle the M Street Hooligans to get a cupcake…
tvnewsbadge, your story reads like an urban legend version of what really happened. Not a memory.
John’s link takes you to a firsthand account of happened.
Sorry, I didn’t check John’s link. It went to a dead end.
Here is the link to the story of the 1974 prank at the Biograph Theatre, “The Devil and the Details” (http://biographtimes.blogspot.com/2009/03/devil-and-details.html).
“tvnewsbadge, your story reads like an urban legend version of what really happened. Not a memory. ”
Actually, I believe my memory is correct, having been present at the time.

“Beaver Valley†(1950), was added to the bill.”
too funny!
The Hooligans loved the publicity. We got ten new initiates. I can’t wait until Halloween!
