Planning Commission to consider closing alley, zoning on Monday
05/16/2010 10:23 AM by John M
The agenda for Monday’s Planning Commission meeting (PDF) shows a few local issues: a new sign for Fairfield Elementary School, designating areas on 25th Street and Marshall Street as part of Parking Exempt districts, closing a portion of an alley off of Cedar Street, and changing zoning in much of Church Hill North to R-8/R-63/UB.
The Mayor has withdrawn the alley closure paper at the request of neighboring residents.
I wonder what happened to the agenda item for echo harbour?
I understand the planning commission approved R-63 as proposed and the overall recommendations of staff. Anyone got a report?
Yes, the planning commission passed R63 with many obstaining. Planning Commission makes recommendations only to City Council. City Council votes Monday 5/24 at 6pm. If you want to limit dense commercial and multi-unit (5+) complexes to ‘business corridors’, and keep them out of our small Churchill residential neighborhoods, contact Councilwoman Cynthia Newbille at 646-3012. Tell her “No to 63”. Zoning descriptions at http://www.richmondgov.com/planninganddevelopmentreview/documents/ZoningOrdinance_.pdf (pg.21 for R8, and pg. 37 for R63).
There is no dense commercial in R63. Much of this rhetoric is fear mongering by a few people. R63 is the best thing to come to Church Hill in many years. If you want a walkable neighborhood with small businesses on corners, support R63 and R8.
#4 The correct term is abstain. The urban dictionary defines obstain as “Attempting to hook up with a girl only to have her turn you down and sleep on the couch”
Times Dispatch has an article about residents opposing the zoning for Oakwood Heights.
