Agenda for the 8/24 CAR meeting
08/16/2010 10:45 PM by John M
The agenda for the August 24 Commission of Architectural Review meeting (PDF) lists a number of projects in the area: 411 N 23RD ST Remove existing tongue-and-groove decking and replace with AZEK; 411 E GRACE ST Replace chain-link gate with new metal gate and install privacy fence; 2301 CEDAR ST Install LED message board on monument sign; 310 N 33RD ST Modify building exterior and create surface parking; 3101 E BROAD ST Reconstruct garage.
Please stop the LED message board
Agreed. That LED sign is a ridiculous idea. Is that the address for the seminary’s kitchen?
#2, I looked up the address and it’s listed in the city property database as Cedar St. Baptist Church. The image provided at that address (neat that the city is including pics) looks like the front of the church to me. They also own 2305 and 2307 and I think the fellowship hall is on 23rd St. I’m guessing the LED sign would list their forthcoming sermons and services.
Did the health center on 25th St. at M St. get permission for an LED sign? I have some memory that they applied for one, but can’t remember if it was approved.
Oops I stand corrected, I just looked up some of the other addresses that the church owns (2301-2305 Cedar, 717-721 N. 23rd, and they ALL show the same image, the front of the church. So now I’m not sure which address is 2301, guess I should have used google maps to begin with.
I live down the street from Cedar Street and don’t feel they need an LED sign to list upcoming sermons, etc. What’s wrong with the boards that most churches have anyway? I doubt that many people drive by after dark to see what’s on the menu for Sunday sermon! Plus the LED signs are tacky and not enhancing the character of the neighborhood!
hey cedar street baptist mindlessly backed the old and historic district law shoved up the neighborhoods collective keister. their preacher refused to meet with the opponents of that hairball, now he wants special treatment!? heres an idea, pray in one hand and spit in the other. let me know which one fills up first. which one of you hysterical preservationists wants to break the news to the cedar street savanarola?(figure of the spanish inquisition, look it up)buddycorbett
