Vote Alamo best BBQ in Richmond!
02/18/2011 6:07 PM by John M
richmond.com is polling for the Best BBQ in Richmond and neighborhood favorite Alamo is in the running:
They might be relatively new to the Richmond barbecue scene, but the Alamo is all the buzz on Church Hill and beyond for their smoky, yummy barbecue. Alamo’s pulled pork sandwiches have just the right hint of hickory and red oak. Their ‘cue is tangy and their meats are incredibly moist. You can also get pulled chicken or beef, even barbecue portabella for the vegetarians. Topped with a tangy slaw and sauce on the side. All under $6. Their side dishes also stand-out, from Texas caviar to mac n’ cheese with jalepenos.
TAGGED: Alamo BBQ
Unfortunately, I didn’t vote for Alamo (wink, wink)…the lines have already been getting way too long, and I hate having to wait on my yummy “fatty” brisket platter (hehehe). You know, just gotta keep a well-kept secret, ummm…well-kept!
…seriously, keep up the good work guys!
My family adores Alamo BBQ!
It’s a blowout so far. Alamo had almost half the votes cast and as much as any two others combined.
Done. Alamo is at 42% and everything else is in single digits!
I’ve invited Ozzy Osbourne to award the Cordon Bleu!
I sincerely love that the business is doing well but Alamo BBQ is not my fave by a long shot.
Voted. Love the alamo!
We appreciate your efforts for building a business in this neighborhood and try to support you as much as we can. I gave you another vote to be the Best BBQ in Richmond, and I really think you are.
@6 – if you know of a better beef BBQ in Richmond, what is it? I’ve heard good things about Q for pork but I’m a beef man myself.
I agree with Alex. The brisket at Alamo is just wonderful. The only brisket I have had that would top Alamo, is the stuff that comes from my own smoker. Their pork may be a bit basic compared to others, but I like it that way. I also heard Alamo ribs are fantastic, but I have not ordered them yet.
@9 Yeah, I don’t know, BBQ = pork for me. Virginia and Western Carolina BBQ is what I like. I guess I’m not a huge fan of Alamo’s BBQ (even though I am a fan of their business and local presence) because I don’t really care for their version of Texas-style BBQ (before the flaming starts I have to say that I have family in Texas and I have had very good Texas-style BBQ)
DEFINITELY vote for Alamo. Fantastic food, great owners, and a real asset to our neighborhood all around.
That said, I’m also voting for two other neighborhood greats: Ronnie’s (works out of a trailer between The Market and the FasMart; and the Halligan Bar by the Farmer’s Mkt.
We’re so lucky to have all three of these amazing eateries within walking distance. Each is unique and each is amazing (note that all three were included in Richmond mag’s top 10 list last year).
There was a lot of smoke in the east end this evening, around 5:00 – 5:30 or 6:00 p.m. Unrelated to this thread, I know – but I heard a house on 27th Street was on fire. Anyone know anything? I don’t use Twitter, wish I had been using it at the time….
Crd, they talked about it on the news. Sounds like it was just smoke from brush fires north of RVA. The change in wind brought the smoke into town.
I assumed the smoke was Alamo doing a heavy load of business…
They say they have thee best Bar b que sandwhich in town
All,
It looks like Q BBQ (50%) has overtaken Alamo (43%) for best BBQ with a total of 6786 votes. We can’t let this happen! Granted, Q is quite good but Alamo is better. Everyone vote a couple of times today and lets get Alamo back up in the lead!

looks like the voting has closed. Alamo is still the best in my book.
Agreed Bill!
