The SUP for 623 North 25th Street (aka The Roosevelt) is on the agenda (PDF) for the next Planning Commission Meeting on Monday, April 18.
TAGGED: The Roosevelt
What? Nothing in the SUP about mandatory pizza service? I thought that was a requirement for all eateries on the Hill.
Now would be a good time to send a few last minute emails/phonce calls to planning commission members in support. I spoke to one commissioner yesterday and he felt that it was likely to pass…however, they did get a letter against it from a neighbor (maybe directly next door) complaining about potential noise.
John, do you need people from the neighborhood to speak?
I’d be happy to voice my support for the Roosevelt at the hearing and will try to gather some of the neighbors too.
Great idea, Andrea. Do we have a link to an email or address so that we can begin generating these letters of support?
(804)646-6304 is the number to call at city hall. i would ask them who to forward a letter/email to because i am not sure which staff member is the liason for the planning commission right now. but whoever it is should be able to submit your letter to the members if you can’t attend the meeting or maybe even give you their individual contact info. these are the members if you know them or want to look up their individual contact info:
Mr. Melvin Law, Chair
Mr. William M. Hutchins, Vice Chair
Mr. Byron Marshall, Mayor’s CAO
Mr. Doug Conner, City Council Representative
Ms. Lynn McAteer
Mr. Doug Cole
Mr. Charles Wray Jr.
Mr. Rodney M Poole, Esquire
Ms. Amy L. Howard
Here’s the way it works, generally: if Cynthia Newbille supports it, it’ll pass. Just focus on her; however, I have a feeling this is in keeping with her vision for the 25th Street corridor.
Planning Commission gave nod to SUP today, now goes to City Council. Opposition by 1 neighbor.
Thanks for the update, John!!
There’s always one…
Again, most are always insensitive to those that are directly affected. Maybe #9 shouldn’t be so snooty and quick to attack the opposition with his comment and understand people aren’t against something for the heck of it- many factors involved for opposition.
And… Doesn’t the immediate neighbor get any respect?
Actually, I am not sure how that was snooty. I thought I was being facetious.
In all honesty, I would like to hear one good reason why someone would not want this business. That part of 25th is filled with commercial properties just begging to be occupied. If the noise gets out of control, call the cops.
I am not discounting that 25th Street is filled with commercial properties begging to be occupied, but don’t dismiss a neighbor that may have valid complaints when you haven’t heard what they are. Again, they live there, and most of us don’t!
Hurray! Approval from the Planning Commission is huge step forward for the 25th Street/Jefferson Avenue corridor.
Sunny,
This area has an established pattern of bitch first and then worry about what could (or doesn’t) happen later. That’s why the neighborhood hasn’t moved forward as quickly as some would like. There is absolutely no reason to oppose this place. It will add value to the neighborhood and another dining destination. It will help in the revitalization of the 25th street corridor. I know Kendra will not be open until all hours with lots of noise. It’s not the kind of establishment she runs. My guess (just a guess, mind you) is that the neighbor who is opposed never bothered to go to any of the UHCA or CHA meetings when Kendra introduced her plans, etc.
Perhaps, if they were better educated, they would not oppose the SUP.
The SUP is on the consent agenda (PDF) for tonight’s City Council meeting.
good luck!
It passed!
Hooray! A little jealous of Church Hill right now!
Great news! Congratulations to the Roosevelt!
