Watch your little dogs
08/24/2011 6:46 PM by John M
“In Church Hill today a large hawk swooped to the sidewalk to get a large-ish raccoon that was running for his life (and made it into a broken spot in someone’s shed). This happened within 10 feet of where I was standing. Watch your little dogs.”
That would be Stanley. He does love larger animals and seems to have no taste for birds at all. He’s completely picked our yard clean of squirrels though.
That would be the best post I have read all day.
Never turn your back on Mother Nature.
As I was managing the construction of the Philip Morris building across from the Coliseum, I happened to observe a nesting pair of Red Tail Hawks living in one of the trees on the Coliseum property. During my 18 months downtown I had the pleasure of watching the couple raise their hatchlings and soar above the city as if no one else owned it. I hope this is part of that same family.
Wait, does Stanley eat small dogs and stray cats? I have a new hero!
That is awesome, but why couldn’t he have picked up the stray cat in heat that has been keeping me up til 3 am the past two nights?
Tim, I’ve got a short gig at Altria and I’ve spotted a big hawk turning lazy circles over Shockoe Hill. It is really a beautiful bird.
#6 get a trap and get it spayed.
Richmond SPCA: 521-1300-it’s free!! I’ll say it again, FREE!
I think I know just how that raccoon was feeling.
On Wednesday 8/24 I got swooped by the hugest hawk I ever saw, in the Market parking lot right around dusk. I think he sighted my ponytail and BOY was I glad he changed his mind!
The first thing I did when I got home was bring my cat in.
#6 just get the trap. Take the offending & offensive feline to the pound. They’ll do the rest, and it won’t be spaying.
#10, then you have to pay for the trap, where as you can borrow one from the SPCA. FREE.
