Tucked back behind Nina Simone, GlobeHopper’s courtyard has always reminded me of the kind of hidden indoor/outdoor spaces that come attached to spots in New Orleans. Have a seat with a latte or a glass of wine and see where the conversation goes, watch the world go by for a while – that kind of space.

The inclusive “it’s all good” bohemian vibe of the coffeeshop could be lifted from the Crescent City as well. The counter is stacked with homemade baked goods and the tables & couch are taken up by a diverse cross-section of Richmond: suits getting a caffeine lift, folks in hoodies with laptops, and maybe a dad out with a baby in a car seat. Perhaps the mayor will come by; maybe the guy behind you in line will be carrying a trombone.

GlobeHopper is chill and honestly quirky, that good kind of lived in, but the folks behind the counter are totally serious about making you a good drink. The coffee is all French pressed Counter Culture out of North Carolina, and the baristas are trained to pull good shots on the big red La Marzocco espresso machine at the end of the bar. Ask’em to make it pretty, see what they can do.

Other things to know:

  • Full ABC license, stop by for stiff one or a beer or whatever.
  • Live music in the evening fairly frequently.
  • It’s a great space to to have a meeting.
