Cyclists will roll through Church Hill all day on Sunday

This weekend’s bicycle races will impact the city Friday through Sunday. The course will pass through Church Hill on Sunday, with cyclists rolling through all day long.

The race on Sunday will be longest of the three, and will pass through the area on Main Street, Libby Hill, and Franklin Street.

Streets south of Broad will be closed that day. Combine that with the fact that Libby Hill should be the premier observation spot along the entire route and it’s a solid bet that traffic will be complex that day.

There are 4 races scheduled for Sunday May 4, beginning at 7AM and running through 7PM or so.

  • 7:00 am start / Road Race Female D2 78 km (5 laps)
  • 9:50 am start / Road Race Female D1 78 km (5 laps)
  • 1:00 pm start / Road Race Male D2 109.2 km (7 laps)
  • 4:20 pm start / Road Race Male D1 109.2 km (7 laps)

The Church Hill Association is seeking volunteers to help with the day. Contact John Johnson at mksm1@msn.com to sign up. Volunteers will meet at the Libby Hill Park House on race day.

The World Road Cycling Championships will take place on the same route in 2015, and is expected to attract exponentially more attention and crowds.
