Having problems with missing flower pots?
05/22/2017 7:44 PM by John M
From Lee on Cedar Street:
So, pretty sure someone has been stealing my potted plants. I’d like to think they just got broken – only the smaller terra cotta pots have been disappearing, but way too many have vanished to think they were just kicked over/broke… Any suggestions for dealing with this? Heavier pots? Cameras? Armed Guards? Just really depressing.
He also says that 2 other neighbors have had this happen as well.
I had this same problem and grew so irritated at it- its the principle of it. Enough in this area goes stolen, I was gonna fight for my plants! …this is what I did..sounds crazy but it worked….I set the cheap rat traps just under the soil atop the plants. I was gonna get even! Found the traps sprung but my pot and plants set down/some pushed over but intact. They never came back.
Cameras and post “CAMERA POSTED”
I’ve been hearing similar things from neighbors. Part of me hopes there’s some person sitting in their house surrounded by dozens and dozens of potted plants.
Funny image.
Anyway, might I suggest looping something through the pot and the hole in the bottom? Maybe some rope or wire, just as a discouragement?
We are at 23rd and Cedar and have had the same problem with potted plants and lawn ornaments. It’s upsetting and a little creepy that people are coming all the way up onto my porch to steal from me. We’ve stopped putting anything out that could get stolen ?
Seems as if some residents forget that gentrification is happening, the transformation is not complete. People would steal the air you breathe in Church Hill if they thought they could sell it for something.
Dandelion – Love the rat trap suggestion!!
We’ve had multiple plants taken from our stoop at our place on Broad St.
Happened to me- was digging some forsythia on one of the overgrown empty lots off Carrington and someone walking by nicked my pot while my back was turned. It was just a plastic pot- wth??
Another one stolen this morning. Or maybe I just didn’t notice it missing yesterday. People really suck
It really sucks. I keep hoping we will gentrify out the ones who are so petty that they steal a pot. Honestly, I think it is a micro-aggression that is intentional. They can’t stop what is happening here, improvement for the most part, but some people would like to make it uncomfortable. Eff em.
@Jon – You’re making some strong assumptions there.
I knew a number of white, suburban transplant kids who did dumb, little shit just like this when I was younger.
Could also very easily be someone with a mental health issue.
We had pots taken last night, 23rd and Jefferson area. Just thought we’d share
i found a site on the dark net that deals in stolen plants. all kinds, potted, up-rooted, shrubs, all fresh from the ground. they boast using local sources, maybe these are related? i ordered some potted plants on it and a kid on a bike showed up at 4:00 am, with something similar. tell me if you want the link to the site.
I use contractor cement and cement everything down, including my landscape bricks. Lowes.
